COLOMBO – A 60-year old seaman who returned from Bahrain died in hospital on Monday (14), taking the tally of COVID-19 related deaths to 13. The number of cases confirmed as COVID-19 positive has also increased to 3,253
The Department of Information confirmed the death, identifying the deceased as a 60-year old Sri Lankan seaman who had returned from Bahrain on September 2 and had been undergoing quarantine. It said the deceased not been initially identified as a COVID-19 positive.
However, upon developing symptoms, he had been admitted to the Chilaw hospital on Wednesday (9) and had passed away from a heart attack on Monday, the Department said
Meanwhile, 19 people were confirmed as being COVID-19 positive on Monday, taking Sri Lanka’s toll of the novel coronavirus to 2,253. One of the new confirmed cases is an associate of the Bahrain returnee who became Sri Lanka’s 13th COVID-19 fatality.
Among Monday’s confirmed cases are six recent arrivals from the United Arab Emirates, one each from Kuwait, Qatar, and Vietnam, four from Bahrain, and five Indian seamen.
Nine patients were deemed recovered and discharged from various hospitals across the country, taking the number of recoveries to 3,005.
