COLOMBO – Sri Lanka’s electricity regulator has approved a 65% hike in electricity tariffs effective from Wednesday (15), a government source said.
The latest hike comes in addition to a 75% hike that came into effect in August last year.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the country’s power regulator, approved the government’s request for a 65% hike on Wednesday, the source said.
However, officials said the hike which will give about a 66% revenue increase to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is subject to conditions.
The four member commission approved the tariff hike with chairman of the Commission Janaka Ratnayake dissenting.
