Sri Lanka’s coronavirus count crosses 3000
COLOMBO – Fifteen new cases of COVID-19 was confirmed on Sunday (30), taking Sri Lanka’s novel coronavirus tally beyond the 3000 mark, to 3010. All confirmed cases are returnees, 12 of them from the UAE and three from the Maldives.
According to the Ministry of Health, all those who were confirmed as being COVID-19 positive have been under quarantine.
Meanwhile, 11 patients deemed recovered were discharged from various hospitals Sunday, taking the tally of recoveries to 2860 cases. One hundred and thirty eight people are receiving treatment at present and 12 have succumbed to the virus.
Separately, an 80-year old female returnee from Australia, who was reported to have escaped from the Nagoda hospital where she was receiving treatment on Friday (28), was located in Kegalle, in the Sabaragamuwa Province, and taken into custody by health authorities on Saturday (29).
The woman, initially quarantined at the hotel in Beruwala, in the Kalutara district, had been transferred to the Nagoda hospital, due to a mental disorder.
According to reports the woman had travelled from Kalutara to Kegalle by bus, and upon arriving in Kegalle had entered a shop for safety, as she feared she was being followed by an unknown person.
Upon receiving information about the woman, health authorities had taken her into custody and sent her for further medical treatment. She had also been subjected to PCR test, and seven employees of the shop she entered to have been ordered to self isolate until the result of the PCR test is out.
The shop had also been subjected to complete disinfection.
