COLOMBO -The sun will directly be over Sri Lanka till September 7, the Meteorology Department said in a statement Sunday (30), warning temperature across the country was likely to rise, with some areas in the North and East hitting 40 °C.
Attributing the sun’s position to an apparent southward relative motion, the Met Dept said the sun would be directly over Karadikkuli, Kappachchi, Neriyakulam, Punewa, Pandiggama, Ambagaswewa, Kanniyal, Uppuveli in the North and East at about 12.10 noon Monday (31).
It advised the public to remain hydrated and avoid going out during the peak times.
The Met Department also said showery conditions were likely to enhance to some extent over the island during next few days from Monday, with showers or thundershowers forecast for several areas in the Central, Uva, North-Central and Eastern Provinces and in Mullaitivu District after 2:00 p.m. Several spells of showers have also been forecast for the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts.
